Trudeau to implement recommendations from Ashley Smith Inquest
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has called for his Justice Minister to implement recommendations that arose from the Inquest into the death of Ashley Smith, including a ban on long-term solitary confinement in prisons.
Ashley Smith was a 19 year old who died in custody at Grand Valley Federal Institution in Kitchener, Ontario. The conditions of Ashley’s detention were deplorable and dehumanizing. Lawyers Julian Falconer, Julian Roy, and Meaghan Daniel of Falconers LLP represented the Smith Family at the Inquest into Ashley’s death.
