In 1997, 35 year old Edmond Yu was shot and killed by police on a bus after brandishing a small hammer.  A former medical student, Edmond had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.  The inquest into his death determined the cause of death to be homicide, and resulted in a number of important recommendations, including that the Police Services Act should be amended to include Crisis Resolution training in addition to annual use of force training.

The Yu family was represented by lawyers from Falconers LLP at the Inquest.
